New webinar wields anti-piracy solution

During a webinar on June 19, 2025, Unified Streaming and castLabs will present a new solution designed to enhance content security while ensuring seamless scalability: high-frequency key rotation.

Hosted by Streaming Solutions Manager Valentijn Siebrands from Unified Streaming and castLabs’s Technical Lead Player Development Thasso Griebel, the webinar, titled "DRM, Upgraded: Inside High-Frequency Key Rotation," will kick off at 16:00 CEST.

The two streaming industry veterans will show a live demo of the solution at the webinar. Attendees will also have a chance to ask Siebrands and Griebel questions at the Q&A.

First shown at NAB Show 2025 in Las Vegas, castLabs and Unified Streaming’s high-frequency key rotation solution protects premium content, including live sports and movie premieres, from piracy and unauthorized access by rotating DRM (digital rights management) keys every 10 seconds.

Unlike traditional periodic key rotation, which can strain DRM servers and drive up costs, the high-frequency approach optimizes efficiency without added complexity. In traditional setups, key rotation intervals were much longer—sometimes per session or every few minutes—because more frequent rotations would overwhelm DRM servers with excessive license requests, making it impractical for large-scale events.

Less than a week after the webinar, Siebrands and Griebel will appear in person at Fraunhofer FOKUS 12th Media Web Symposium in Berlin to present the solution in front of a live audience. Titled "Beyond Encryption: Authenticating and Protecting Live Video in a Post-Trust Era," their talk will take place at 15:00 CEST on Tuesday 24 June.
