To stream the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 to millions, DAZN trusted technology from M2A Media and Unified Streaming

LONDON & AMSTERDAM, November 13, 2025—Streaming technology companies M2A Media and Unified Streaming provided key software components that enabled the world’s leading sports entertainment platform, DAZN, to stream the month-long FIFA Club World Cup 2025 worldwide to hundreds of millions of viewers.

For the tournament, M2A Media provided DAZN with the primary headend services, enabling the receiving, processing, and preparing of all video content for distribution to viewers.

Unified Streaming supplied M2A Media with Live Origin, aka Unified Origin - Live.

Rights and partners

When FIFA awarded global broadcasting rights of the tournament to DAZN, it was the first time the global football (soccer) organization awarded them to a streamer.

To deliver a seamless, high-quality, resilient live experience to millions of potential viewers, DAZN used its tried and tested technology partners to deliver the resilience and reliability that was imperative for such a high-profile tournament.

Since DAZN was founded, M2A Media has provided the sports streaming specialist, DAZN, with broadcast channel ingest, transcoding, live manifest manipulation/editing, packaging, ad insertion, and delivery services. And for years, Unified Streaming’s core product Unified Origin has worked at the heart of M2A’s services that power DAZN’s live streaming architecture, managing its packaging and delivery layer.

The technology

ABR (adaptive bitrate) dynamic packaging (aka just-in-time packaging) and ad insertion, two crucial components of M2A’s service offering to DAZN, are supported by Unified Streaming’s Live Origin.

Encoding creates multiple versions of video files at different bitrates and resolutions. Unified Origin - Live packages those video files to different formats such as HLS, DASH, and CMAF. Unified's technology then provides a manifest file to the player, so that any device can adapt to the viewer's variable network conditions and play the video without problems.

Where required, industry-standardized digital rights management (DRM) can be applied, as can forensic watermarking (A/B variant), to protect the content from piracy.

Ad insertion technology, crucial to monetization, inserts advertisements into the stream, ensuring strong ROI for advertisers.

Unified Streaming’s flexible Live Origin equipped DAZN’s FIFA Club World Cup streaming workflow with extensive capabilities such as rules-based variant selection, filtering, and fallback paths.

M2A scaled the live architecture without issues.

Safety and numbers

By integrating the capacity to withstand even the largest traffic spikes, M2A Media, assisted by Unified Streaming and its Live Origin, gave viewers the high-quality experience they have come to expect from the DAZN sports streaming service.

Hundreds of millions of fans in over 200 markets tuned in to see the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

FIFA reported that, all told, across all media forms, the number of people who watched the tournament in one way, shape, or another totaled 2.7 billion people, roughly one-third of the people on Earth.

“We are incredibly proud to continue our relationship with DAZN, especially for an event as significant as the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. Our long-standing partnership with Unified Streaming continues to provide us with leading edge capabilities, and robustness, both of which are crucial for premium sporting events,” said Ciarán Doran, CEO, M2A Media.

“We’re happy that our software served such a key function in support of M2A Media’s services for DAZN, as they successfully streamed the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 to massive audiences worldwide,” said Dirk Griffioen, CEO of Unified Streaming. “We’ve teamed up with M2A for a long time now as a tech partner. And we look forward to collaborating more with them, as part of their excellent live sports streaming infrastructure.”
